Serve Long-Term: Missionaries

Start a conversation with us about what that might look like so we can walk with you through this process! We have a several different serving positions in Nicaragua available that we’d like filled—take a look at them and review our application process below. Contact us if you have any questions!

APPLICATION PROCESS

Becoming a missionary with One by One:

1. Pray. Ask God that He will direct your steps. This is a big decision.
2. Ask. Ask the people in your life who both love God and love you, what you should do.
3. Apply. Completely fill out the long-term missionary application, the Lifestyle Covenant, and the release of claim form.
4. Interview. You will have an in-depth interview with the One by One Director or Assistant Coordinator.
5. Visit. Once the interview is completed and we are ready to move forward, a time to visit (minimum of one week) will be arranged for you. We ask that you pay for your airfare to Nicaragua, but we will take care of you once you are here.
6. Raise support. We’ll provide you with training for how to raise the funds you need to serve long-term in Nicaragua!
7. Move to Nicaragua!

Available positions at One by One:

Administration & Missionary Care Director

Are you detail oriented? Are you passionate about organization and quality work? Do you enjoy mentoring people in transition? Would you like to teach others how to raise support? We invite you to apply for our Administration and Missionary Care Director position!

Responsibilities include:

  • Help new and existing missionary staff through transition processes.
  • Research and create programs to train new missionaries.
  • Train new applicants on how to raise support.
  • Assist with ministry accounting.
  • Organize ministry supplies and make purchases for ministry needs.
  • Creatively manage details and processes that allow the ministry to succeed on a daily basis.
Requirements:
  • Be willing to move to Nicaragua.
  • Agree with One by One’s Statement of Beliefs.
  • Be flexible.
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Be detail-oriented.
  • Work well with a team.
  • Be able to balance a budget.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Have existing knowledge of Spanish or be willing to attend classes upon arrival in Nicaragua.

Building Manager

Do you enjoy being a handyman? Are you good at leading construction projects? Would you like to employ these skills in Nicaragua?

The Building Manager performs and supervises the One by One building’s maintenance, from making sure things are working properly to leading group construction projects. As a result this position requires a variety of skills. The Building Manager also makes sure the building is safe, secure and well-maintained and is a place where people feel welcome and comfortable.

Responsibilities include:
  • Price and purchase materials for construction projects.
  • Direct short-term teams in maintenance and construction projects.
  • Check for and flag maintenance issues.
  • Repair broken fixtures and equipment.
  • General building improvement.
  • Monitor rodent and insect exterminations.
  • Assign duties to housekeeping personnel.

Requirements:

  • Be willing to move to Nicaragua.
  • Agree with One by One’s Statement of Beliefs.
  • Be flexible.
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Work well with a team.
  • Be organized and detail oriented.
  • Be able to handle money responsibly.
  • Have good communication and decision-making skills.
  • Be skilled at troubleshooting and project management.
  • Be capable of physical work, including bending, pulling and lifting heavy objects.
  • Be knowledgeable about general construction activities such as wiring, plumbing, painting and safety and security measures.
  • Have existing knowledge of Spanish or be willing to attend classes upon arrival in Nicaragua.

Media Director

Do you like to film and edit videos? Do you like to write and edit? Do you have an eye for visual media/design? Do you enjoy photography? Maybe this opportunity is for you! One by One is looking for an enthusiastic Christian with a heart to tell stories about the people and ministry in Nicaragua. The Media director will work behind the scenes to share the message of the ministry with friends and supporters of the ministry through a variety of ways. We invite you to join us by using your writing and media skills to inspire people to get involved in what God is doing in Nicaragua. The Media Director will work alongside the Communications Director and the Director of Program Promotion to accomplish these responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Film and edit videos and design print publications for fundraising purposes.
  • Maintain social media sites for the ministry (Blogger, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Film and photograph weekly One by One outreach programs.
  • Train nationals on video production.
  • Work with other staff members to maintain One by One’s website.
  • Work with other staff members to plan for future marketing needs and events.
  • Stay informed on current publication trends to improve the quality and impact of the media that One by One produces.
Requirements:
  • Be willing to move to Nicaragua.
  • Agree with One by One’s Statement of Beliefs.
  • Be flexible.
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Work well with a team.
  • Have a strong technical background with a passion for writing, photography, and videography.
  • Have existing knowledge of Spanish or be willing to attend classes upon arrival in Nicaragua.

Sponsorship Coordinator

Are you detail oriented? Do you prefer to serve behind the scenes? Are you passionate about organization and quality work? Do you have a strong desire to see kids in poverty receive a quality education? We invite you to apply for our Sponsorship Coordinator position.

Responsibilities include:
  • Facilitate and translate communication between sponsored children and their sponsors.
  • Communicate with sponsors concerning financial donations.
  • Manage information on children and youth for sponsorship programs.
  • Assist with sponsorship program accounting.
  • Work closely with Segundo Paso Director.
  • Participate in Segundo Paso programs during the week.
Requirements:
  • Must be fluent in Spanish.
  • Be willing to move to Nicaragua.
  • Agree with One by One’s Statement of Beliefs.
  • Be flexible.
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Work well with a team.
  • Be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Have excellent communication skills.

Vocational Teacher

Do you have a particular skill that you want to use in ministry? Do you believe that God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others? Do you enjoy teaching people? Do you want to see God use you to make a real difference in the lives of Nicaraguans? If you are passionate about a particular trade, we would love to work with you! We are looking for individuals with a heart for teaching and a desire to help people in a real, tangible way. We work with Nicaraguan youth and adults who would jump at the opportunity to learn a new skill that could help them find employment and be lifted from poverty.

  • Research and design curriculum for vocational classes.
  • Organize weekly vocational classes for children and youth.
  • Work with our Segundo Paso director to teach vocations to the children and youth involved in our sponsorship program.

  • Be passionate about teaching one or more vocational skills.
