Starting mid-March, we suspended all in-person ministry activities as a precaution against the pandemic. At the time, the reported covid-19 numbers in Nicaragua were low, but many of our kids live with elderly family members and our ministry activities have involved large numbers of kids playing, singing, and learning in close contact. We did not want to become an infection hotspot with the inevitable arrival of the coronavirus.
Since that time, our staff has kept in contact with our kids and youth via WhatsApp and Zoom and sent Bible lessons via recorded video; some of our staff have also occasionally visited kids at their homes to encourage them and to see their wellbeing in person. In several dozen cases, we have helped provide some basic food and supplies to families as well.
It has not been nearly the level of interaction we want, but also the best way we feel we can love those we minister to. Reported covid-19 cases have risen and fallen in the last several months, and we are making tentative plans to start in-person activities of some kind in September.
We have appreciated your prayers and your continued support. Please continue! Please pray that our staff can stay healthy and find more and more equipping kids to grow in a relationship with Christ and develop tools to improve their quality of life!
